Your Course

We are thrilled that you're considering studying one of our Veterinary Medicine courses. We have been delivering exceptional training in veterinary medicine for over 234 years. If you accept your offer to study Veterinary Medicine at the RVC you will benefit from an outstanding learning environment and graduate ready to make a real difference in the veterinary profession.

Welcome from your Course Director

The Course Structure

Each Veterinary Medicine course is structured slightly differently depending on your pathway; you can learn about the course you received an offer for by watching the videos below.

A Veterinary Medicine degree from the RVC enables you to practice all over the world as we are one of the few veterinary schools that hold accreditations from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in the UK, the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) in the EU, and the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in the USA and Canada for our Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) programmes. Furthermore, RCVS accreditation ensures RVC veterinary graduates are licensed to work in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

What is meant by blended learning?

Across your RVC handbooks, you may have seen the term ‘blended leaning approach’ being used and may wonder what this means. Here’s how it works:

Throughout the Veterinary Medicine course, the RVC utilises the blended learning approach to improve accessibility, allow the space for question asking, effective revision and independent thinking.

What happens next?

After your interview, your scores will be collated and held in our scores database until all interviews for Veterinary Medicine are completed. We can only make decisions about who to offer places to once everyone has been interviewed. This may mean that some months pass before you hear what the outcome of your interview has been; we know that waiting isn’t easy, but it is important that we are consistent and fair to every applicant at every stage of the process.

We anticipate beginning to issue offers in from January through to March so please do not expect to hear from us before then. We really appreciate your patience whilst we work on completing interviews and making final offer decisions; if the team are distracted with responding to emails chasing up outcomes it delays that process for everyone.  Difficult as it may be, try to use the time to focus on your studies, taking care of your wellbeing and generally keeping your mind off waiting!

Offer Holder Days

Once we have made you an offer to study at the RVC you will begin to receive information about student life at the RVC as well as invitations to Offer Holder events.  An overview of the key events are listed below.

Offer Holder Days are events that are organised for those who have received an offer to study with us. They enable you to explore the RVC, speak with the current students and academics in more detail, and to decide whether we are the right fit for you. The dates for the 2026 International Offer Holder days will likely be on the following dates:

Tuesday 17th February 2026 – Camden Campus

Wednesday 18th February 2026 – Hawkshead Campus

Tuesday 31st March 2026 – Camden Campus

Wednesday 1st April 2026 - Hawkshead Campus

Invitations and booking information will be sent out shortly after you receive your offer.  Please note, these dates may be subject to change.

Accelerated Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Offer Holders Only

All BVetMed students must complete a minimum of 10 weeks of AHEMS in order to progress to the 3rd year of the course. For students on the standard five-year route, this experience must be completed during your time on the course. For those applying to the Accelerated BVetMed, because you progress directly into the 3rd year after your Accelerated year, you may undertake and submit up to 10 weeks of previous animal husbandry experience for approval before you start. This experience must have been completed within the 24 months before entry.

Details about how to seek prior approval will be sent in Spring 2026. Any weeks not approved in advance will need to be completed during your 1st year. Further information will follow, including a handbook and a webinar led by our AHEMS team in Spring 2026, but you should plan ahead and factor this requirement into your holiday periods in Year 1.

Student Feedback

At the RVC, we value our student feedback and are constantly working hard to ensure that you have the best possible experience. In 2023, 94% of RVC students declared themselves satisfied with the quality of their course, the highest level amongst all UK universities. Here is what our current students have to say about why they are glad they accepted their offer and life at the RVC:
