RVC small animal referrals is one of a select group of practices from around the world to be deemed a Gold Level Cat-Friendly Clinic. This means the hospital has made exceptional efforts to ensure the environment is as comfortable for cats as possible. The Cat-Friendly Clinic designation is a standard devised by the International Society of Feline Medicine.
Some veterinary practices have achieved Silver Level by ensuring premises are of a good clinical standard with appropriate equipment, staff have a caring and empathetic approach to handling cats, staff are knowledgeable about cats, there is a cat-friendly waiting room and cats can be hospitalised in appropriate conditions.
To achieve Gold Level, as well as meeting the above criteria, practices must have additional exceptional cat facilities. These include a dedicated cat ward, larger cat friendly cages for hospitalised cats, enhanced features in the cat friendly waiting room and additional facilities and equipment.
Enhanced care at the RVC
As well as being separate from our canine area, the feline waiting area is subdivided so that the cats cannot see each other if they don’t want to. If your cat is hospitalised overnight they will be monitored by qualified veterinary staff around the clock.
Our cat ward is a quiet and peaceful area where our feline patients can relax and recover without added stress. Our team of specialised nurses are trained in the best ways to handle and work with your cat. To reduce stress, kennels in the cat ward do not face each other. We have dedicated feline veterinary equipment, beds, toys and a large food menu. Everything in the cat ward is used solely on feline patients so there is never a doggie scent anywhere to be found.
Tracy Mills with Harry, a 12-year-old Maine Coon
Even with regular insulin injections to control his diabetes, Harry's condition was showing little sign of improvement. We didn't think too long about the operation and as far as we can tell, it has been a complete success.
