Simon is Professor of Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. He is Head of Pathology and Anatomic Pathology Residency Director. Simon is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (DipACVP) and a recognised Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Specialist in Veterinary Pathology.

Simon is a Senior Examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists and serves on the Examination Assembly & Adminstration Committee of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). He is current President of the British Society of Veterinary Pathology (BSVP).

Simon has a range of research interests, principally infectious respiratory diseases and gastrointestinal diseases of dogs. He is currently leading a multidisciplinary team to improve diagnostics for canine infectious respiratory disease ('kennel cough') and has many other collaborative research interests including compative cancer pathology and ocular pathology. Simon is a Visiting Scientist in Experimental Histopathology at the Francis Crick Institute providing pathology support and expertise to a number of research groups.

Simon is Anatomic Pathology Residency Director and previously BSc Comparative Pathology Course Director and Intramural Rotation Director for Pathology.

Simon teaches general and systems-based pathology across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and he particularly enjoys training anatomic pathology residents and preparing them for board examinations in pathology.

Simon participates in the clinical diagnostic service of the RVC (post mortem and surgical biopsy work), is involved in training of residents in anatomic and clinical pathology and has a wide range of publications in collaboration with clinical colleagues within and outwith the RVC.

He is part of an expert panel of pathologists providing a diagnostic histopathology service to the Texas A&M University Gastrointestinal Laboratory.

Invited speaker on respiratory disease and gastrointestinal pathology at a number of national and international meetings in Dublin (BSVP), Maastricht (ECVIM-CA), Leon (CL Davis Foundation), Oslo (MSD Animal Health), Helsingor (Havemeyer Foundation), Rotterdam (ECVIM-CA), Lerida (Davis-Thompson Foundation), Guangzhou (SCAU), Pheonix (ACVIM), Edinburgh (BSVP), Paris (SFAPV).
