What will be involved?
The eMentoring will consist of a weekly email exchange between student mentee and undergraduate mentor. Most mentoring periods will cover one half-term, but, if fruitful, can last longer. The exchange takes place over a secure website and will be monitored and moderated for Child Protection purposes.
What will the mentee gain?
This is a chance for students with little HE experience to ask current undergraduates exactly what being in university is like. They can also ask for advice concerning their school work and university applications and find out first-hand about HE study, living away from home and managing their own finances. We will also offer mentees the opportunity to visit the RVC for a day of lectures and practical sessions.
Who is eligible?
We feel that GCSE students and sixth formers will benefit the most from this scheme. Whether it is GCSE students wondering about what to do in sixth form, or Year 13 students worrying about making the transition from college to university, we have mentors who can offer their own perspective.
As this is a Widening Participation scheme, priority will be given to students who have no parental history of HE (not including mature study) and who attend a non-selective state-maintained school.
How does a mentee register?
Our next round of applications will be invited in Spring 2017. If you have any questions in the meantime, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
