The Royal Veterinary College are delighted to confirm that the Royal Society of Biology have renewed our Advanced Accreditation for all of our MSci Biosciences courses, BSc Biosciences courses with Certificate in Work Based Learning and Research (CWBLR) and additionally awarded Advanced Accreditation to our new MSci Biological Sciences (Wildlife Health Sciences) pathway.

Advanced Accreditation of each of these degree pathways with the RSB demonstrates the high quality of the RVC’s biosciences programmes, which offer a research rich final year of study (MSci pathways) or recognition of the value of undertaking a placement Year (CWBLR) for the value of these experiences to developing key employability skills in our bioscience’s graduates.

In determining the outcome, the Advanced Accreditation Panel commented:

“RVC is a world-class centre of research and it is evident that this research strength infuses the structure and delivery of teaching, with a focus on the development of research skills”. 

Dr Charlotte Lawson Course Director Biosciences Programmes said:

“Advanced Accreditation of our MSci Biosciences and CWBLR programmes from such a prestigious organisation as the Royal Society of Biology confirms that our research-led approach to the curriculum, and particularly the research-rich final year and placement year options, enables our students to develop the necessary attributes to be the research scientists of tomorrow.

“The award recognises the strength in depth of the academic team and the quality of the experience on offer.”

Dr Claire Russell Applied Bio-Research pathways leader added:

“The government is increasingly promoting the training of students for roles in industry. The pharmaceutical, biotech and scientific industries worked with the Royal Society of Biology to develop Advanced Accreditation so they could identify graduates from suitable courses to employ. The award of Advanced Accreditation recognise that the year of work experience and applied research embedded in our courses prepares our graduates or both the world of work and further independent study such as a PhD.”

Dr Claire Thornton MSci Biological/Bioveterinary Sciences pathways leader said:

“The MSci Biological Science and MSci Bioveterinary Science courses allow our fourth-year students the freedom to conduct extended research projects throughout the year, integrating them into active research groups across the vast range of specialities available at the RVC.

“Advanced accreditation from the RSB recognises the high level of research, communication and employability skills with which our students will graduate, enabling them to grow their careers in science and beyond.” 

Dr Stuart Patterson BSc/MSci Wildlife Health Sciences pathways leader added:

“The RVC has a strong reputation for teaching and research in animal health. At a time when the importance of wildlife health is increasingly being recognised internationally, this pathway frames our animal health expertise in the context of wildlife species in order to prepare the wildlife health scientists of the future.”
