The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has been recognised by the Times Higher Education (THE) Student Experience Survey 2018 as the best university in London for student experience. The RVC is also delighted to be ranked joint 12th nationally, rising six places since last year.

THE Student Experience Survey is often acknowledged as the most revealing and accurate surveying tool for understanding the opinions of students in higher education institutions, as it is completed by current students. This year’s results are based on the responses of 20,251 undergraduates UK-wide, who were asked to describe how their university contributed to a positive or negative experience on a seven-point scale ranging over a number of topic areas. The student’s responses were coded from 1 (meaning ‘strongly agree’) to 7 (meaning ‘strongly disagree’).

The RVC ranked 4th in the UK for industry connections, as well as scoring at least 6/7 in each of the following categories high quality facilities, high quality staff lectures, helpful and interested staff, well structured courses and good support/welfare for students. Overall the RVC scored 6.3/7 in one of the most important sections: whether students would recommend their university to a friend.

Professor Stuart Reid, RVC Principal, said: “I’m delighted with this excellent result. It is testament to the commitment of the whole community – staff and students - to create a meaningful academic journey in a supportive social environment. I am very pleased that it endorses our first position in the NSS and the RVC’s international standing in the QS rankings.”

Christina Paish, President of the RVC’s Students' Union, said: “The RVC Students’ Union has been expanding year upon year and we are proud we punch above our weight in London for such a small and specialist college. Our success is all down to our wonderful team of part time officers who, alongside their studies, work hard to provide support to students, facilitate our growing number of sports teams and societies and put on legendary entertainment events. We would also like to recognise the continued commitment and contribution from all the year reps at the RVC and their contribution towards a continually improving curriculum and the hard work of the SU staff team. The Students’ Union is proud to contribute to university life and make the RVC a great place to study, work and play.”
