Receiving the RVC International Scholarship has been an incredible honour and has allowed me to pursue the education I have been working towards my whole academic career.
When researching veterinary institutions, I was made aware of the RVC scholarship and applied knowing this was the only scenario with which I could attend school internationally. Since starting at the RVC, my decision to attend has been reaffirmed everyday with the quality of instruction, facilities, and dedication to wellness that I have encountered.
While it is still early on in my course, this scholarship affords me the opportunity to pursue further education following my veterinary degree and pushes me closer to my clinical and research goals in equine medicine.
I have wanted to pursue a vet degree my entire life, for as long as I can remember. My specific focus is in equine medicine and One Health in relation to antimicrobial resistance. My goal was to study at RVC, a school located in a major global city with major connections in the veterinary education world. RVC is also located in close proximity to major equine populations in the UK and Europe and has great exposure and training for equine studies. The emphasis on clinical training was also a major drawing factor for me. Finally, the nature of antimicrobial policy and public health in Europe and the UK intrigues me for impactful future studies.
The prestige, quality of teaching and research, and world class facilities are an excellent vehicle for advancing my future study goals. The recent renovations have made Camden campus accessible, navigable and supportive for learning. I am greatly looking forward to moving out to Hawkshead when the time comes to enjoy the benefits of the other campus as well. The integrated spiral structure of my course's curriculum allows for a deeper understanding and cementation of knowledge I didn't feel was available to me at other schools. The connections and global diversity at RVC mean that any future work I do with equine studies and most especially with One Health will be with a team of colleagues with diverse interests and excellent calibre.
Living and studying in London has been excellent. I enjoy my social life and have been able to not only balance but explore extra-curricular interests all just a tube-stop or bus ride away from Camden campus. As an artist, doing my vet-degree in London means that whenever I need a break there is always a class to attend or gallery to visit to maintain my inspiration and focus my drive with fine art. Whenever I have the opportunity, I also like to leave the city to see new places and get a breath of fresh air to refresh my mind and body.
The shared passion of veterinary studies allows students of diverse backgrounds to come together with a mutual understanding and goal in their learning, while preparing for a rigorous and extremely diverse career field with incredible opportunities. I have wanted to pursue a vet degree my entire life, for as long as I can remember. I feel so privileged and thankful for the opportunities I have been provided.
