local running clubs – who doesn’t like a bit of healthy rivalry and competition?!
It’s been a fantastically successful year for the Club, with the year starting well for Emma Dixon at the World Triathlon Championships (see page 4). The Club also put on a good show at several events including the BUCS duathlon, as well as the indoor and outdoor athletics championships. The money matched by the Alumni Fund has been instrumental in allowing the Club to field so many athletes in so many disciplines in track and field with students relishing the opportunity to give anything a go and some even discovering a talent for their new found event.
The Club has also purchased three new bikes including a tandem. These bikes, being much lighter than the classic student rust machine, have offered students the chance to find out how easy and enjoyable cycling can be. The tandem has also proved a hit as an intra-campus shuttle service and therapy bike.
The academic year of 2017-2018 has been a competitive and social success for RVC TRI, with more students trying, and importantly, enjoying exercise thanks to the funding from alumni.
CHASE ME
CHARLIE
After smashing their targets for qualifying, the RVC Equestrian Team needed to raise funds to get to the regional BUCS show jumping and dressage competition and to help one of their team reach the nationals! They organised a ‘Chase me Charlie’ fundraiser, which involved a collection of 6 horse and rider combinations from their team ‘out-jumping’ each other over an increasing fence height.
“We had so much support from fellow students and teachers who came in their droves, keen to learn about the horses and what we do as a team. Stalls that we ran at both campuses alongside our GoFundMe page helped us to reach our target of £250 which was then matched by the ACT from donations to the Alumni Fund.”

HIGH SCHOOL
MUSICAL
The Performing Arts Society always puts on a great show that not only provides a much needed outlet for cast members to express their creativity but also for audience members to let their hair down and have fun. This year’s show was supported by the Alumni Fund via matched funding initiative in order to cover the high costs of the performance rights and materials. It was a sell-out show entirely produced and directed (and photographed (c) Oliver Siddons) by students and a huge success.
