The gingiva is the only one of the four periodontal tissues normally
seen in the mouth.
Attached Gingiva
The attached gingiva is keratinised to withstand the stress of
ripping and tearing food. It tightly adheres to the underlying connective
tissue with rete pegs.
Free Gingiva
The free gingiva surrounds the crown of the tooth.
