The Approach to Diagnosis (2
of 2)
The Diagnostic Process
This follows the same pattern as in other disciplines
but with a different emphasis. This is illustrated in our
diagnostic algorithm for taking
the history and examination
and tests.
-
The history and knowledge of management procedures are of special
importance in revealing causes and patterns of disease
-
Because the lesions can be seen, examined and sampled, physical
examination is a vital component
The history is arguably the most important part of this
process because the owner, with appropriate questioning,
will often classically describe the skin disease and provide you
with the clues leading to a correct diagnosis.
