Principles of History Taking (1 of 3)

Adopt a logical and systematic approach.

Take charge of the interview and to ensure that you direct the owner to answer your questions succinctly.  Let the owner know there will be another opportunity towards the end of the interview when other problems which concern her, or him, can be raised.

Do ensure that the owner does not bring the animal into the centre of attention before you have asked your questions. Once you or the owner begin to examine the animal you will be distracted from thorough analysis of the history.
