The outstanding diagnostic laboratory facilities on the RVC's Hawkshead campus provide a range of world-class diagnostic pathology services.

These diagnostic services are provided by pathologists and technicians with a vast experience of routine and more complicated clinical cases. There is a wealth of equine experience within the pathology team, both as veterinary practitioner and pathologist.

The lab provides a wide range of routine diagnostic services, as well as more specialised services in specific areas, including:

  • Haematology
  • Biochemistry
  • Microbiology
  • Cytology
  • Anatomic pathology (including biopsy and post mortem examination)

Diagnostic reports are routinely accompanied by expert veterinary pathological advice, and pathologists are available to discuss results with referring vets or provide further advice. Recommendations are automatically included where appropriate.

See RVC Diagnostic Laboratories for relevant submission forms (including biopsies and other lab submissions).

Serum Testing for Atypical Myopathy

Following research that was supported by The Horse Trust, we now offer vets serum testing for the hypoglycin A toxin and its principal metabolite known to cause atypical myopathy.

This is a more rapid test than previously reported methods. We also offer combined profiles including hypoglycin A & acylcarnitine identification and hypoglycin A, acylcarnitine & organic acid identification at special prices.

Please send using a next day delivery service and use the specific vet submission form for atypical myopathy samples
