ON CAMPUS INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION
We recently asked our Alumni to share their memories and words of wisdom for the benefit of future generations of RVC students, with the opportunity to dedicate a seat in the Alumni Lecture Theatre.
Since the launch of our Pass it On Campaign in 2016, we now have 60 seats named either by Alumni themselves or in memory of an alumnus/na by a
family member. Your words of wisdom are inspiring today’s students and also making a huge difference to the Alumni Fund that supports so many of the projects you are reading about here.
If you have some words of wisdom to share, would like your name to be a permanent fixture at lectures (!) or would like to pay tribute to someone in this unique way, please contact us: development@rvc.ac.uk
      SUPPORTING STUDENTS
IN FINANCIAL DIFFICULTY
Graduating with debt is a major concern for many prospective students and the support they can access via these special awards, many supported by our alumni, make a huge difference in achieving their ambitions through education.
The RVC Alumni Fund helps support these initiatives and we are truly grateful to all our Alumni who donate to this fund to support our current students.
THE HOMFRAY AWARDS
Matthew Homfray has donated funds over the years to the RVC through a family charitable trust, The Mary Homfray Charitable Trust. Matthew Homfray, born in Manchester, grew up on a farm near Cardiff in Wales. He trained as a veterinarian at the RVC, and then travelled to Bali in 2011 to volunteer in fighting a rabies epidemic. One thing led to another and he fell in love with the island. In 2012 he established a veterinary clinic, which in 2013 became Sunset Vet in Kuta. He has always been a small animal vet, but also achieved an MBA along the way, which led him to set up a management consulting company that works with veterinary clinics. Matthew Homfray is a strong supporter of the RVC. He made another contribution of £5,000 this year to the RVC to support BVetMed students in their final year and alleviate some of their financial stress and in 2017 the RVC established the Homfray Awards.
The Homfray Awards are already helping students to focus on their exams rather than their money worries.
Our thanks to Matt and his family for supporting our current students, such as Robin (below), through the RVC Alumni Fund.
Robin started the course in September 2014 having received a first class honours degree in Bioveterinary Sciences at Hartpury College. The funds have helped her to keep on top of the increased cost of travel and living as well as the new equipment she needed for her final year.
After graduation Robin plans to move back home to North Yorkshire and work in a mixed practice. She hopes to be able to work closely with the community near her home and would eventually like to purchase a small holding and settle in the North Yorkshire area.
