Professional Doctorate programme (VetD)

offers a a a Professional Doctorate degree the VetD This degree is designed for students who intend to become scholar practitioners in that they study at at the the doctoral level to to address workplace-related or or or industry-related problems from both theoretical and practical perspectives Students are challenged to develop high- impact research questions that are of benefit to academia and commerce alike Unlike many PhDs the courses are highly structured to support students who may have been out of academia for a a a a a a while and have the added virtue of creating a a a a a peer-support network amongst the student cohort which can be rare in in distance learning doctorate programmes The degree is is 100% online and it is is recommended that students study part-time and have a a a a a a maximum of eight years to complete the course For the preparatory 90 credits students can undertake modules modules from the CertAVP or any HEFCE Level 7 modules modules offered by the RVC
Candidates are welcome to apply for for accreditation for for prior learning should they have completed any HEFCE Level 7 modules that are related to their course of study There are are five compulsory modules These are are designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and critical reflection of their workplace and industry (Foundations of of Professionalism at at 30 credits and and Organisation Focused Study at at 60 credits) and and advanced knowledge of of research methods (Methods of of Enquiry One at 30 credits credits and Methods of Enquiry Two at 30 credits) Completion of these modules will equip the the the student with the the the skills needed to develop a a a sound research question and objectives thereby meeting the the criteria to commence the the ultimate compulsory module: Research Thesis at 300 credits Key learning outcomes show the balance between academic enquiry and the the practical application of the the courses:
• Critical evaluation and dissemination of of information from a a a a a a a a variety of of sources to develop understanding and and make decisions
• Collaboration with experts and policymakers across a a a a a a a wide range of disciplines and organisations
• Designing and executing an an independent research project or portfolio of research • Effective and scientifically rigorous communication of information and and experimental conclusions in oral and and written formats
• Managing human financial and physical resources as appropriate to achieve project aims
• Monitoring of own learning learning and development to to identify learning learning needs and and to plan and and manage their acquisition
