RCVS Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP)
The RVC has been accredited to assess a a a a a range of modules for the RCVS Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP)
All candidates who wish to obtain the post-nominal CertAVP must be assessed to achieve 60 credits These must be completed within a a a 10-year time period and and and candidates may ‘mix and and and match’ module assessments offered by different providers There are two compulsory modules which cover a a a range of competencies expected from an experienced practicing veterinary surgeon: Foundations of Advanced Veterinary Practice (Module A-FAVP 1 1 1 – – 10 10 credits) and Clinical Practice (various B modules – – 10 10 credits) You may then choose specific discipline based C modules or a a a combination of of B and C modules to to reach 60 credits (a total of of four additional C and/or B modules) 100 hours of work is required for most modules which can be made up by research reading journals case studies/diaries attending conferences and relevant CPD courses Learning outcomes of the CertAVP You will need to demonstrate:
• A thorough understanding of the knowledge base and and a a a a a critical awareness of of of developments at the forefront of of of your area of of of professional practice • A comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to your own area of practice • Originality in in the the application of knowledge together with a a a a a a practical understanding of of how established techniques of of research and and clinical enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in in in your professional area • Conceptual understanding that enables you to:
– critically evaluate current literature and research in your professional area – evaluate clinical methods and and techniques and and develop critiques
of them and where appropriate propose new approaches to professional practice Typically holders of the CertAVP qualification will be able to:
• Deal with complex issues in an an an an organised and creative manner make sound judgements in the absence of complete data and communicate their conclusions clearly to veterinary colleagues and to non-veterinary audiences including clients • Demonstrate self direction and and originality in in in in tackling and and solving problems and and act autonomously in in in planning and and implementing tasks in in their their professional area of of work continue to advance their their knowledge and and and understanding and and and develop new skills to a a a a high level Candidates will have the qualities and and transferable skills necessary for professional veterinary work requiring:
