What is cat neutering?
Neutering is a surgical procedure to spay or castrate your cat to ensure they are no longer able to breed.

What is cat spaying?
Spaying your cat involves the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus. This procedure is called an ovariohysterectomy, or spay.

What is cat castration?
Castration is the removal of the testes’ functionality. Surgical castration is the removal of excision of both testes. Chemical castration uses pharmaceutical drugs to deactivate the testes. Pet castration is used for both birth control and behaviour management purposes.

What happens when my cat is neutered?
Your cats’s neutering operation is performed under anaesthesia. Your pet is then carefully monitored after surgery by our highly-qualified and registered veterinary nurses.

How old does a kitten have to be to be neutered?
We recommend early neutering from four months of age in all suitable kittens.

How long does a cat neutering operation take?
Neutering cats is also a relatively quick procedure, especially males, which helps keep the risk low. In most cases your cat will be reunited with you the same day.

Why is cat neutering important?
As well as preventing unwanted pregnancies, neutering offers important health benefits to your pet.
Spaying prevents unwanted pregnancies, repeat cycling or ‘calling’ behaviour; development of mammary (breast) cancer and womb infection (pyometra).
Castration of males can prevent roaming, fighting (and subsequent diseases) and unwanted pungent urine production.

Here at the RVC Beaumont Sainsbury vet practice, we offer a full cat and kitten neutering service across a wide variety of species. As we are a gold standard ISFM clinic - we have exceptionally high standards in all aspects of cat healthcare.

We run spaying and neutering clinics Monday to Friday (advance booking required)
(limited weekend appointments available but these may incur additional charges)

How much does cat spaying/neutering cost ?

Your pet spaying/neutering costs will vary according to the type of neutering involved and your circumstances

  • The price for standard cat or kitten castration is £115.00
  • The price for standard cat or kitten spay is £135.00

The cat/kitten neutering prices are inclusive of the operation, 2 x post-operative checks and a buster collar
