On the 5th of April 2016 the Guardian released an article highlighting a handful of the medical issues we have been working on here at the RVC regarding bracycephalic dog breeds.

'Problems from head to tail': craze for pedigree pugs raises health concerns

The article discusses the rise in popularity of these breeds and the problems these dogs face. It is based on a recent study carried out in Australia and published in Canine Genetics and Epidemiology . Our own Rowena Packer comments in the article to say:  ''Whenever we've got breeds that do have health problems increasing in popularity naturally we are really concerned about that.”

We are pleased to see the welfare issues surrounding this topic are being discussed, particularly in a public setting.
