Statement from Dr Imelda McGonnell
We are very pleased that you are visiting our virtual offer-holder day and hope that you enjoy taking part in all of the events that we have developed for you. Offer-holder days are one of the highlights of the year at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and this year is no less – just different, due to the current restrictions. We hope the event gives you a taste of RVC life and will help support you in making your decision; we have chosen you and we very much hope you will chose us.
The current Covid-19 pandemic highlights the global need for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and scientists in managing animal health and understanding the diseases humans and animals can share. Now, more than ever, these skills will be in demand and the RVC is at the forefront of expertise in One Health, the discipline that brings both animal and human health together. The training you will receive at the RVC will be both world class and in demand in the years to come.
As an organisation, we are rising to the challenges that the current Covid-19 related restrictions present to us. We have moved the teaching of our programmes online provisionally until the end of the 2020 summer term and we are adapting our delivery and courses so that students across the globe are able to join in with lectures, tutorials and group work sessions, whatever national or international restrictions are in place.
We do not know what the next few months will bring but we look forward to welcoming you in late September, ideally in person at our campuses. Should Government advice at that time require us to continue with online-only delivery, we will be able to start the academic year in that way and bring you to campus when allowed.
We know times are challenging, but they will change. Now is a good time for you to think about the future you want for yourself and the way in which you can have an impact on the world’s future. RVC #seriousaboutsciencesince1791
With best wishes
