Volunteering at the Animal Care Trust: Maureen’s story
M aureen is one of the ACT’s most treasured volunteers, normally assisting with our admin once a week. During the pandemic, this has not been possible
but we’ve been keeping in touch. We spoke to Maureen about her volunteer role:
“I came across the ACT in 2013 after losing my cat Chloe due to a cancerous lump. I volunteer once a week and love the variety of jobs I get to do to support them. It’s a great way to meet new people as well and the cause is very close to my heart.”
The ACT is a very small fundraising team and we often rely on volunteers during busy times to help us with administrative duties or at events such as our Mucky Pup Fun Run. A few hours kindly gifted by one of our volunteers means that we can use our paid resources more effectively and focus on raising much-needed funds for the RVC hospitals.
In her spare time, Maureen supports her favourite football team Oxford United and hangs out with her new best friend Misty. “Misty is a beautifully natured cat and is very spoilt! She recently received treatment for some broken teeth at the RVC Beaumont Sainsbury Hospital for Animals, and in the midst of the pandemic, I was so glad they were
able to help her. Having Misty for support and comfort during this crisis has meant such an awful lot. She is loved and adored and she is one of the reasons I love to support the ACT.”
Thank you, Maureen, for everything you do for us.

O ur beautiful Memory Tree has now raised an amazing £35,348 and we’re so grateful for your continued support of this much- loved edition to the RVC Small

The tree is a wonderful expression of the love we feel for our pets, all of whom play such vital roles in our lives and especially through lockdown.
If you would like to celebrate your much-loved pet with a leaf on our Memory Tree, please call us on 01707 666237 or visit www.rvc.ac.uk/memorytree
Each gold, silver and bronze leaf can be engraved
in loving memory of a pet that you have sadly lost, or to celebrate the pets who are still with you.
The Memory Tree at Christmas
Once again this Christmas, we’ll be lighting up our Tree and adding your seasonal messages of love and support, so please do watch your inboxes and letterboxes for how to get involved in this very special initiative this November.
