                   STUDENT NEWS
  In addition, we have had many national and multi-national events organised by our officers, such as AVS Congress, which was hosted at the RVC with 310 attendees, all organised and lead by our very own AVS reps. The IVSA Group exchange featured vet students from around the world visiting the RVC, and our students visiting their schools in turn again, all organised by our IVSA reps. The RVC chapter of SAVMA has also been very active with many events including Thanksgiving, the White Coat Ceremony and many presentations and
grants awarded to individual students and support for the Zoo Soc Symposium. Five representatives also went to the AVMA convention in Denver and three to the SAVMA Symposium in Athens.
Our Environment Officers have been busy maintaining the NUS Green Impact Bronze award we achieved last year and are currently running a campaign to encourage students to change their search engine from Google to Ecosia, which is a company that uses a proportionate amount of its revenue to fund tree planting projects around the world. Our Vet Nurse Liaison Officers hosted the first ever national Student Vet Nursing event, SVN Fest, in July. This was an historic event to celebrate and bring into light the integral roles of the vet nurse in not just the veterinary science industry, but
the science industry as a whole. Finally, our Post Grad Officer was the lead for inducting our PG students at the start
of the year, and organised a multitude of events throughout the year, including the much celebrated Postgraduate Research Day, which was held in May.
This is just a taste of all the campaigns, events and achievements that come under the banner of the SU, but in all honesty it is simply the amazing work of the students at the RVC.
With all this in mind, I’m sure I speak
for everyone on behalf of the SU that it has been an absolute honour to serve this amazing group of curious, bold and ambitious students this year, and I really am excited for what is yet to come from our incoming SU team for 2019-2020.
Jade Urquhart- Gilmore (current SU President):
I am absolutely thrilled to have been elected President for this academic year. The Students’ Union is
a wonderful resource for the students, providing so much from sports and clubs to welfare events and representation within the University.
Gorprit did an excellent job last year, passing our first ever strategic plan;
I look forward to pursuing the goals
set by this plan. I aim to increase the involvement of the student body with the Students’ Union by creating an easy to use, anonymous feedback system to allow students to have their individual voices heard. I shall also endeavour, in my role as President, to ensure that the students’ needs are at the heart of the Hawkshead Development Project.
I have a fantastic team of enthusiastic and dedicated officers, and I am very excited to see how much we can achieve together for the benefit of all the students of RVC.
