Diagnostic Tests: Introduction (1 of 3)

This section describes the equipment and methods involved in the common dermatological tests. In every instance, the aim is to make the tests quick and simple, yet robust.

Collect lots of material, if possible, in case you need to repeat the test procedures. It is easy to discard spare specimens but often difficult to obtain fresh samples.

  • Even though simple, good technique is important and practice is required to achieve proficiency
  • Remember that selection of appropriate sampling sites and optimising sample collection are vital
