Scaling is a common clinical sign and may reflect primary defects
of keratinisation such as idiopathic seborrhoea. However,
ectoparasitic diseases (especially cheyletiellosis in dogs and rabbits)
and other causes of chronic skin inflammation (eg bacterial infection,
dermatophytosis, allergy) may lead to scaling.
