Culturing from Cutaneous Lesions

Sterile swabs are normally used for bacteria and Malassezia.

Sampling

Ideally, the swab is touched onto the freshly expressed pus or other exudate. This may be obtained by needle aspiration.

In some instances, where less contaminated sites are not available, the swab will be touched or rubbed on the surface of the irritated or exudative skin.
