A dilated hair follicle devoid of hair and plugged with keratinous debris (a 'blackhead').

It is not someone who makes other people laugh, as previously suggested by an intrepid undergraduate.

Processes which interfere with hair growth and induce defects of the keratinisation process in the follicular infundibulum are likely to lead to comedo formation (plural comedones).

Comedones are most often encountered in dogs.
