Periodontal probe grad
in mm's
|
|
This instrument has a graduated, blunt ended probe at one end,
with a sharp shepherd's hook at the other. The blunt tip can be
round or flat and graduated in mm or colour coded in bands.
The periodontal probe is used subgingivally to explore the sulcus,
mainly to determine pocket depth, but also for locating the subgingival
calculus and other problems.
The sharp opposite end (shepherd's hook) is used on the crowns,
to distinguish caries from reparative dentine or staining, to determine
presence of pulp exposure and, possibly, for other supragingival
lesions.
