The principal size needed is the "Small Breed". Medium
and large forceps are rarely required. The function of extraction
forceps in veterinary dentistry is primarily to remove the root
once it has been luxated loose. In human dentistry, forcep blades
are forced apically to push the root out of the alveolus. This is
rarely possible in veterinary dentistry, due to the longer tapering
roots of brachyodont teeth.
