The Modified Pen Grip

Next>>

The modified pen grip has been developed to provide human dental hygienists with a grip that provides good control of the blade whilst preventing fatigue during long procedures.

Demonstrating the Modified Pen Grip (8 seconds, no audio)

Long term, it should protect against "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" (CTS), which is an occupational hazard for those occupations that work with close control of hand instruments.
Hold the instrument between the thumb and index finger, then bring the other fingers down so that the shaft lies on the second finger and under the index finger. The normal pen grip is not recommended due to reduced control and, potentially, the development of CTS.
