If your dog has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and meets the following criteria, they can be seen at the MVC:
- Seven years of age or older (five years of age or older for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels)
- 20 kg or less
- No other significant health conditions
Some normal dogs are also examined to act as a comparison population of healthy aging patients. Dogs are considered normal if they have no known heart condition and meet the criteria listed above.
The Mitral Valve Clinic does not take over responsibility for treatment of your dog’s mitral valve disease but can offer advice to your vet. Dogs that visit the clinic are examined every six months to help us monitor your pet’s condition.
