This mini site is intended to promote the work that the RVC is doing on development education and global awareness in the veterinary curriculum. The potential audience includes current RVC students and staff wishing to find out more about what is being taught, students from other veterinary schools, veterinary partners in the developing world and international donors.

Why is Global Awareness Important?

Veterinary professionals have a key role to play in supporting international development in the future. Already, as a consequence of environmental and population changes, animal and zoonotic diseases which were in the past restricted to the tropics are now increasingly seen as global threats. Meanwhile as demand for high protein food resources grows, veterinary scientists will have a significant part to play in international livestock production. The increasingly rapid global movement of both people and animals means that these issues will be of relevance to veterinary practitioners and researchers working both in the UK and overseas.
