Head Vet of the Shelter Medicine Program since its beginning in October 2014.
Coordinates and oversees the teaching in the 1 week core Shelter Medicine rotation and 1 week core Blue Cross rotations
I graduated from Cambridge Unviversity in 1997 and intially worked in small animal equine practice, then moved to small animal practice in London.
I joined the RVC in 2008 and became head vet at the Beaumont Sainsbury Animal Hospital after working there for a short time. After the Shelter Medicine component of the primary care practice grew, I then took on the new challenge of Head Vet of the Shelter Medicine Program.
We work closely with charity partners such as the RSPCA, Wood Green the Animals Charity and Blue Cross to deliver fantaastic hands on roataions for the final year students and have a new 2 week tracking program starting in 2019
I recently completed my PG cert in Veterinary Education. I am currently part way through my Graduate certificate in Shelter Medicine at the University of Florida.
I am a two times James Bee Educator award winner for teaching excellence with latest prize in 2018 for feedback
I have recently become a trustee for the largest dog charity in the UK- Dogstrust
My areas of interest include Shelter Medicine and Dentistry.
Poster presentations at the PCVE (Primary Care Veterinary Educators conference) in Virgina Tech, Georgia and Cornell.
I deliver the introduction to Shelter medicine lecture in pre rotation
I have been involved in teaching practical dentistry sessions to BVetMed year 3 students
I deliver a lecture to BVetSci students around Shelter Medicine which includes a visit to the RSPCA cat shelter (Central NE London branch)
Clinical areas of interest
- Shelter medicine and accessible care- pragmatic decision making and the care of animals in a shelter or charity environment
- teaching surgical skills; neuter surgeries (including paediatric neutering in cats)
- dentistry- include nerve blocks and dental radiography
