Lara is a Staff Clinician in the Cardiology Service at the Royal Veterinary College. 

Lara received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan in 2006. Following her undergraduate education, she relocated to Germany, where she received a Master of Science in Molecular Medicine from the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and worked on projects in molecular virology abroad (Freien Universität Berlin) and upon her return to the United States (The University of Pennsylvania).

Lara received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 2016, and completed a Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City the following year. Lara completed a Residency in Cardiology at North Carolina State University in 2020 before joining the Cardiology Service at the Royal Veterinary College.

In a 70% clinical role with the Cardiology Service, Lara teaches undergraduate veterinary students during their clinical rotations, and participates in undergraduate examinations. Lara also teaches in CPD courses at the RVC.
