Emil is a specialist, (Board Certified) in Large Animal Internal Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM) and residency trained in Neurology. He is a Clinical Research Fellow working with gait and activity monitoring.

Emil graduated as a DVM in 2005 from University of Copenhagen. After 4 years in predominantly equine and some bovine practice in Denmark, Emil started a Ph.D. in a collaboration between University of Copenhagen and The Royal Veterinary College focusing on 1) how much specialists agree on the neurologic examination of horses and 2) if ataxia in horses can be measured using traditional gait laboratory equipment as well as portable inertial measurement units (IMUs, also known as sensors). After finishing his Ph.D. in 2013, Emil started a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at The Nemo Farm Animal Hospital and the Equine Hospital at Cornell University in Ithaca New York. Well into his first year of residency Emil got a unique opportunity to do a simultaneous residency in medical neurology with the last 18 months in the Companion Animal Hospital

Emil has two primary research targets of 1) activity monitoring in neuromuscular diseases and 2) gait analysis in horses and dogs with neurologic diseases - with a focus on all forms of ataxia.
