Abdominal embryology

Development of the intestinal loop

The midgut is suspended from the dorsal body wall by a short mesentery and its derivatives receive their blood supply from the cranial mesenteric artery. It consists of cranial and caudal limbs.

Due to rapid growth, a loop of midgut develops and projects into the extra-embryonic coelom (physiological herniation).
