At London Zoo, the keepers are worried about Nadia, one of their3 Bactriancamels. Amysterious lump has appeared on her side and it's getting bigger. Nadia is veryimportant to the Zoo - her species is endangered, with fewer than 500 left in the wild - so Zoo VetTai Strike is called in to have a closer look. Taidecides to do a biopsy to see if the lump is cancerous - if it is, it must be cut out.Nadia needs to be sedated for the procedure...but she doesn't go down easy, grunting and spitting vomit at Tai to show her annoyance...
Meanwhile, at the Royal Veterinary College, Phoenixthe horse has taken a turn for the worse.The team have been watching her round the clocksince theydiscovered a fracture in one of her neck bones,just one week after she underwentcutting edgespinal surgery. Then, in the early hours of this morning, Phoenix was found collapsed in her stable and running a high temperature. If it's a symptom of infection where they operated on her neck, Phoenix may be facing more surgery...
Over at the small animal hospital, Cocky the parrot has been brought in to see top animal ophthalmologist Elaine Holt. Cocky's a 43 year old African grey parrot and her owners have recently noticed she's bumping into things as she flies round. Elaine diagnoses cataracts in both eyes. The only treatment is surgery - but in a bird of Cocky's age, any anaestheticis extremely risky.She could die on the operating table...
