Brian Sharp is a chartered physiotherapist, who graduated from Brunel University, London in 1992. Before training as a physiotherapist he had already achieved a first degree in zoology/physiology, had worked in medical microbiology and health education, and qualified as a teacher.
As of 2006, he has worked 14 years in human physiotherapy, and over the last 10 years has specialised in musculoskeletal work. Prior to beginning his PhD in October 2005, he was working in a senior position in a local hospital outpatient department
Brian started his animal physiotherapy training in 2001. He passed the MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the RVC in 2004, and established his own small animal practice (CaninePhysio) in Middlesex. He now provides advice and assistance on physiotherapy matters to the staff at the Queen Mother Hospital (RVC), and also runs an outpatient referral clinic at the hospital one afternoon a week.
His PhD research subject at the RVC is ‘In vivo skeletal motion and muscle recruitment patterns in dogs with/without cruciate disease’ and his supervisors are Dr Sandra Corr and Dr Rachel Payne.
