Motion Analysis Systems

ProReflex System

The six-camera ProReflex system is manufactured by Qualisys and tracks reflective markers (made from polystyrene hemispheres (supplier Pinflair, Mead Industrial Estate, Hertford, Herts) covered in retroreflective tape (Scotchlite 8850, www.3M.com) - the material on running shoes that shines in car headlights. The system can locate with millimetre accuracy the position of markers in 3D 500 times per second.

Treadmill with cameras   This is used in a wide range of studies where either in isolation to describe limb flight or tissue strain in vitro or in combination with the forceplate system for calculation of joint moments.

Digital Video Cameras

Four JVC digital video cameras with up to 200Hz frame rate can be used individually for motion analysis, or collected simultaneously with our video recording hardware and software. They are ideal for clinical and research movement analysis purposes.

Two Sony digital video cameras and three analog video cameras are used for recording gait studies.

Sonomicrometry System

The 12 channel Sonometrics sonomicrometry system allows for highly accurate measurement of distances between sonomicrometry crystals. This system is primarily used to measure the length changes of whole muscle tendon units, muscle tendon fibres and tendon strains both in vivo and in vitro. However the system is highly diverse and can virtually be used to measure any length and length changes that we require with high accuracy, such as muscle volumes and other movement artifacts. For more information on how sonomicrometry works, please visit Sonometrics web page.
