Meet the Team/Who Does What

The College's HR Department is structured to enable a customer focussed and responsive service to both the academic and support departments within the College as well as the general public.

The HR Department is split into the following teams (please click on the relevant link for contact details and main areas of responsibility):

The majority of HR staff are situated in Room S2 on the 2nd Floor of the Eclipse Building, Hawkshead Campus with the exception of the Directors Team and Staff Training & Development who are situated on the 1st floor of the Eclipse Building. We also have a presence in the Camden Campus, sharing an office with the Estates Department on the Ground Floor (for directions to either Campus, please visit the About Us page on the RVC website).

As Director of HR, Ian has responsibility for the development of HR Strategy, advice to Council and SMG on HR matters, industrial relations including Joint Negotiating Consultative Committe (JNCC), senior staff remuneration, management of the operational HR service, representation of RVC externally on HR matters and overall leadership of the HR team.

As PA to the Director of HR and Office Manager, Pauline provides administrative support to the Director and has responsibility for the co-ordination of JNCC and other committees, co-ordination and maintenance of HR admin standards, is the first point of contact in the HR office, and maintains office administration including budget monitoring and invoices.

The Development team has responsibility for taking the lead in the development of the Employment Policy Framework and providing advice to managers on its application, JNCC issues relating to employment policy, Employee Relations casework e.g.  disciplinary and grievance issues, dealing with harassment and bullying as well as Job Evaluation including the development structure for embedding HERA at the College.

The Information and Equality team has responsibility for HR IT Strategy including overall management of the HR Database and IT standards within HR, internal management reporting (including recruitment, training, turnover, absence), external reporting (including HESA/RCVS) and development and management of the HR website and e-recruitment system.

The team is also responsible for the College Diversity Strategy including the integrated approach to compliance issues and development of ‘Single Equality Scheme’, support and advice to the Equality Strategy Working Group, equality impact assessments and co-ordination of local equality action plans and advice to managers and staff on equal opportunities issues and equality and anti-discrimination policies.

The Operations team has responsibility for providing advice on terms and conditions, employment issues for managers and staff (including maternity/paternity, tenure and retirements, benefits and contracts for new starters), advice on and administration of probationary process, variations to contracts for existing staff, termination and extension of fixed term contracts, work permits, exit interviews, manual/ electronic personnel records and all pay and pension related queries.

They also provide advice on the reward policy and flexible benefits, supplement and allowance schemes (including Clinical Academic Payment Scheme) and Annual Review and provision of information for the Senior Staff Remuneration Committee.
