Loss of performance in competition horses often occurs as a result of many different factors. At the RVC's Equine Referral Hospital, our multidisciplinary approach ensures that cases are handled in-depth and that problems are resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The equine hospital is well-equipped to investigate cases of poor performance. Our extensive clinical expertise in musculoskeletal, upper respiratory and cardiopulmonary diseases is backed up by unrivalled state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, including exercising endoscopy (treadmill and overground), echocardiography, telemetric ECG and gait analysis (back movement, gait symmetry and horse-rider interaction). These investigations can be complex and usually require hospitalisation over several days.

The Comparative Neuromuscular Disease Laboratory builds on these strengths by offering a specialised service for evaluation of muscle biopsy specimens. We believe that a team approach to evaluation and treatment of poor performance provides an unrivalled level of service for our clients.
