Volunteering

Give the ACT the gift of your time by helping us with organising events in your local area, holding an ACT branded collecting tin, coordinating local collections or coming into the office to support us with our admin and research.

Volunteering for the ACT could help you to develop existing skills and gain new ones, meet new people, find out more about what we do and be part of a team, have fun and do something that is both challenging and rewarding.

For more information on these opportunities or for help and advice with organising your own event please contact Claire Peel on cpeel@rvc.ac.uk or  01707 666237.

We’re very grateful to our volunteer fundraisers who have raised valuable funds for the ACT. Please see examples below.

Katy Boon

Everyone at the ACT is so grateful to Katy Boon, her friends and family for organising a charity horse show in Stevenage in July. Everyone who attended had a great day, with showjumping, showing classes and a performance from the blazzing saddles stunt team on offer!

Katy's horse was treated for colic at the College on Boxing Day 2008. She was able to go home, but unfortunately did not survive a further bout of colic some time later. Katy organised the show as a thank you to the staff at the Equine Referral Practice who gave her the extra time with her beloved pony. A fabulous £830 was raised on the day and put towards 2 colic research studies being undertaken at the College.

As a sign of appreciation for all their hard work, Katy and her team of helpers came in to the College in October to have a tour of the new equine facilities and to receive talks from our clinicians on the studies the money is funding. While at the College, Katy kindly presented our clinicians with a cheque for the money raised.

Katy has been busy once again organising another fun filled event to raise money for the ACT, this time a barn dance. The event was yet again a fantastic success and we are grateful for all Katy's hard work. She is busy collecting and counting all the funds to get a final figure for the event which will be posted here as soon as we have it!

Helen and David Trimmings

Helen and David have a collecting tin at their Guest House in West Wales after their Springer Spaniel, Megan, was treated at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals. They wanted to do their bit to say thanks for the excellent care Megan received. They regularly empty their tin and send in the contents donated by their very generous pet loving guests. Since starting their collection Helen and David have raised over £140 for the QMHA. Megan has gone from strength to strength since her treatment and is enjoying a very busy life at home in Wales.
