Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health Group
The Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health Group is part of the RVC's Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The Group is led by Professor Dirk Pfeiffer and currently consists of 15 academic staff members.
The Group's strengths lie in its provision of postgraduate teaching at MSc level and in epidemiological and public health research. It also offers specialist training to senior clinical training scholars (residents) following the curriculum of the European College of Veterinary Public Health.
Both postgraduate training and research are aimed at the national as well as international level. The Group is involved with research in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. The Group has specific methodological strengths in
- risk analysis
- design and evaluation of surveillance systems
- spatial analysis
- social network analysis
- animal health economics
Through postgraduate training the Group has forged strategic links with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and DEFRA's Animal Health Veterinary Laboratories Agency. Research links exist with the Centre for Epidemiology and Risk Analysis within the Animal Health Veterinary Laboratories Agency, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO - Rome), Institute for Animal Health (UK), CIRAD (France) and ARC- Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute (South Africa).
