RVC on Tour 2007: 'Inspirational' events attract 500 visitors
Students from across the country had the opportunity to get a taste of life in the veterinary profession in September, as the RVC visited several locations as part of the annual RVC on Tour programme. Almost 500 students, parents and teachers attended the various sessions, and their feedback praised the events as being 'inspirational' and 'highly informative'.
This year, the series of events was substantially expanded to include 11 destinations, giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about the college and the veterinary field in general.
Each event included talks from academic staff on courses and careers in veterinary medicine, science and nursing, alongside the chance to speak to current RVC students about their experiences. In addition, visitors could also participate in hands-on activities from the Clinical Skills Centre at Hawkshead, such as bandaging, gowning, gloving and attempting a one-handed tie.
Feedback from the events was extremely positive, with students relishing the chance to speak to RVC staff and students face-to-face and to get involved in the interactive demonstrations.
‘I feel more confident about the BVetMed course and requirements now, and how the course is taught – it has boosted my enthusiasm for the RVC’
‘It was good to find out about all the various courses other than just the BVetMed’
‘This has given me belief in myself to carry on aiming towards my goal’
‘It was a fantastic talk and has really made me want to become a veterinary nurse when I am older’
