Who is our Undergraduate Open Day aimed towards?
This Open Day is intended for anyone interested in our undergraduate courses, including students of all ages (Although we have no age restrictions we recommend that students attending are in Year 10 and upwards, due to the focus on the day), parents, careers advisors, and teachers. You will be able to find out about the courses we offer and take a tour of the campus with current students. Staff will be available to advise you on entry requirements, fees, bursaries, and accommodation. Because of the popularity of this Open Day the number of guests per person is limited to a maximum of two.
If you are interested in making a group booking please email openday@rvc.ac.uk with the number of places that you would like to book.
Admissions/Parent's Presentations occuring at the Undergraduate Open Day
If you are a prospective student wanting to attend one of our scheduled Admissions Lectures at the open day, which will include information about all of the undergraduate courses that we offer as well as our entry requirements, it is essential that you register on the Open Day Booking Form.
The Admissions Lecture is due to last approximately 45 minutes and will take place at the following times: 10.15 am, 11.15 am, 12.45 pm and 1.45 pm. Please note that the 11.15 am lecture is now fully booked but places are still available for the other times.
Unfortunately parents and other visitors are not permitted to attend the Admissions Lecture due to space restrictions. However, we are running a Parents Session alongside the Admissions Lecture which non prospective students are welcome to attend, attendance for these sessions will be on a first come first served basis.
Undergraduate Courses featured at our Open Day:
The three-year BSc Honours Bioveterinary Sciences (UCAS Code D300) is intended for students interested in Animal Science at the interface between the basic biological sciences and clinical practice, and prepares graduates for a wide variety of post-graduate careers related to the animal biological sciences and animal welfare.
The five-year BVetMed degree course (UCAS code D100), the four-year Graduate Accelerated BVetMed degree (UCAS code D102) and the six-year combined BVetMed/BSc course (UCAS Code D101), all lead to a degree qualification entitling the holder to practise as a veterinary surgeon. The six-year course is designed for students with a keen interest in science as well as veterinary medicine, and graduates are awarded a BSc degree before completing the BVetMed.
The Veterinary Gateway course (UCAS Code D102) is a one-year course available to students from non-selective schools who are members of the Widening Participation cohort. Successful completion leads to a place on the five-year BVetMed degree course.
The three-year Foundation Degree Veterinary Nursing (UCAS Code D310), and the four year BSc Honours Veterinary Nursing (UCAS Code D313), both provide a strong practical training in essential nursing skills. Staff will be available to give advice and guidance on veterinary nursing and other careers involving working with animals.
Open Day Shuttle Bus
We will be running a complimentary shuttle bus between Potters Bar train station and Hawkshead Campus on a regular basis from 10:00am until 3:30pm. We will have student ambassadors wearing RVC branded black t-shirts based at the train station and on campus to direct you to the correct bus and answer any questions you may have.
BSc Bioveterinary Sciences Open Days
The RVC holds two Open Days at the Camden Campus each year for anyone who is interested in learning more about the BSc Bioveterinary Sciences programme.
Both Open Days for this academic year have now passed.
The next BSc Bioveterinary Sciences Open Day is scheduled to be held in October 2013 followed by another in February 2014.
Are you interested in the scientific work that leads to advances in medicine?
The BSc Open Day is open to anyone who is interested in a career in animal-related science. Parents, teachers and careers advisers are also welcome to attend.
Members of staff will be available to discuss aspects of the BSc Bioveterinary Sciences (D300); the entrance requirements; and the teaching and research facilities. In addition, current students of the RVC will take you on a tour of the London campus and provide a first-hand account of student life at the RVC.
Please note: the BSc Bioveterinary Sciences Open Day is only for those students interested in studying this degree programme. There will be no information available on the day about our veterinary medicine, nursing or Gateway courses. If you are interested in studying to become a veterinary surgeon or nurse, you should attend our main Open Day (held in May each year). The Camden campus is outside the Congestion Charging Zone but please note that there is no parking available.
