Why do non-EU international students not require the BMAT?
The RVC has taken the decision that non-EU international applicants to the BVetMed programme do NOT need to sit the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT).
International and Home/EU applications are managed in different ways. The RVC receives funding from the UK government for a specific number of places on the BVetMed for Home/EU students. This is the maximum number of Home/EU students we can accept. The remainder of our places on the BVetMed are therefore open to students from outside the EU.
We currently experience a huge volume of applications from Home/EU students for places on the BVetMed, therefore it is necessary to include an additional 'filter' when assessing applications and making decisions on candidates. As the volume of applications from international candidates is much smaller, this additional filter is not required.
It is important to stress that International and Home/EU applicants are not competing against each other for a place on the BVetMed.The two pools of applicants are applying for two separate sets of places on the course, and are thus treated independently of each other.
