Accommodation information for international students
The RVC’s main criteria when offering college accommodation to students is the mileage distance from College to the student’s home address. Therefore students coming from abroad are given priority, and are normally housed in College Grove. College Grove is the accommodation located on the Campus at Camden (for more details see below).
We also have 7 places in College Grove and 6 in our other nearby hall of residence, Mary Brancker House, solely for postgraduates (see details below).
When allocating the rooms, the RVC accommodation team try to place a minimum of 2 international students within each flat.
“I think usually they try to put International Students in College Grove. It’s nice because it’s a good mix of students; other American students and some English and Irish students too.”
Sarah Sleeba, BVetMed Year 5
Those students with unconditional offers are sent Tenancy Agreements and documentation as soon as the rooms have been allocated. In September, we attempt to provide a maximum of five days prior to the commencement of the Tenancy Agreement to allow overseas students to move in.
Some international students choose to live in private accommodation which is relatively easily found in London, and our students are located across the city. The Camden Campus is located close to several main rail and tube stations, which allows students to commute to college from other areas of the city.
“I live in St John’s Wood, which is a really nice area and the College is only a mile’s walk from where I live. I am living with a family in a big room with a sink and everything.”
Brianna Johnson, BVetMed Year 4
In addition, RVC students are entitled to use the University of London Housing Service (www.housing.lon.ac.uk). They can advise on tenancy agreements and also host a forum on their website for people advertising or looking for accommodation.
The London Student Housing Guide also offers advice and guidance. It can be downloaded from www.studylondon.ac.uk
The London Conference on Overseas Students (www.lcos.org.uk) gives details of hostels for students in addition to publishing an annual A-Z Guide for International Students in London.
“It’s entertaining to live with British people, it means that there are people to explain stuff to you.”
Anya Kajlich, BVetMed Year 5
