BSc Intercalated Courses

Students registered for the five year BVetMed degree course (UCAS code D100) may opt to intercalate and gain a BSc (Honours), normally between the Second and Third Years. This can be either in the RVC, possibly on our BSc in Veterinary Pathology, in one of the other colleges of the University, such as UCL or King’s, where there is a wide choice of course units in basic and para-clinical sciences; or occasionally, at another university (such as the BSc in Conservation Biology at Liverpool).

Some of our students have chosen to study agriculture during their intercalated year, and Wye College (now part of Imperial College) has been a popular choice.

With increasing emphasis on the value of research experience for Veterinary graduates, many students intercalate on courses which offer a significant research project component. Popular choices (mainly at King’s or UCL) are pharmacology, animal behaviour, physiology, genetics, biology, anatomy and developmental biology, molecular biology, and psychology.

In recent years an increasing number of students have recognised the value of intercalation, both in giving them a more rounded education, and in broadening their career options.
