theatre building in central londonThere is definitely more to London than meets the eye at first glance. London may appear vast and sprawling when looking at a map, exploring the city on foot reveals each area has a distinct identity and feel. Camden is a quirky market district along the canal; Soho and China Town provide entertainment and chinese food; Covent Garden has theatre, culture and shopping; The City is filled with colossal buildings and amazing architecture; Hampstead has the heath and Kensington caters for museum lovers. The more you look; the more you see!

As Samuel Johnson famously said, “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”. It is one of the most vibrant, fast-paced capital cities in the world.

Camden Town

Camden is famous for being dazzling, flamboyant and exciting. It is unique in its atmosphere and is characterised by the ever-evolving high street, the colourful markets, the beautiful canal side and lock, and a wide range of music venues. To counteract the busy Camden environment, The Regent’s Park and ZSL London Zoo are nearby. If you really need to lose yourself in some green space for a while, the grassy expanses of Hampstead Heath are only approximately 15 minutes away on the bus.

Bloomsbury is a charming area packed full of garden squares and renowned for nurturing students in the arts, education and medicine. It is home to the Bloomsbury Colleges (which include the RVC) and University College London (UCL). The University of London Union (ULU) building is located here and provides great facilities and events for all University of London students.

Green spaces

For those who miss the countryside

cyclist in regents parkIt is a myth that London is all concrete jungle and no greenery; it is actually one of the greenest capital cities in the world! There are eight Royal Parks open to the public in London, five in central London, which served originally as hunting grounds. The numerous heaths and commons are less formal and some are even big enough to get lost in. They used to serve as an agricultural resource for locals. In addition, there is a liberal sprinkling of smaller public garden squares such as the beautiful Russell Square in Bloomsbury.
