Hannah Baguley

BSc Bioveterinary Sciences

I attended the RVC summer school in 2005 and I fell in love with the RVC ever since then. The facilities, the staff and the students inspired me to come here. The RVC encapsulates all the things that make a university great!

There is a great deal of support when you need it from the RVC; whether that is with regards to academic help or personal help. I love the fact that we are a specialist university. The quality of the teaching is fantastic. I enjoy that as an RVC student, you feel part of a small community.

I find my course challenging but enthralling. I feel engaged in my learning and enjoy studying. The thing that I enjoy about the course is that the course captivates my scientific interests and gives me a deeper understanding of the science behind the medicine.

The RVC is purely veterinary based sciences, which means that you are surrounded by experienced and knowledgeable staff. You are learning from those directly involved in the field. I love the friendly atmosphere that can be found within the walls of the RVC. Students are very proud to be part of it. The dedication seen in the students and staff at the RVC is a huge strength. And all the facilities and resources are outstanding!

There is a lot of support offered to students by the RVC and there is always someone that you can go and talk to directly. You feel that you are not just a number, you are a person and they treat you as such.

I have lived in Mary Brancker House for both my first and now my second years. The first year was hard trying to live with people that you don’t really know and to try and work out a system that works. I learnt to become more patient. I also learnt that some people were not designed to live together! I loved the independence but also the security that is offered by living in halls. This year, my second year, I am a resident coordinator for the accommodation and now have a great understanding of how things are run and have a lot of responsibility.

I find the atmosphere in the RVC welcoming: It’s like a big family – we are part of a special community that is built on friendliness, trust and support.

I find ‘London’ life very interesting as there are many places you can go shopping and hang around with your mates etc, also London has many fascinating places like the tower bridge and other more interesting places. London is the heart of all places.

When I do graduate I want to apply for Vetmed so it is probably not best to mention this, as it will not do the course I am doing no justice. I am on a fantastic degree and there are lots of career opportunities available because of it; many doors are opened because of my course.
