Alice Brockman
Veterinary Gateway Programme
The RVC was the only place that offered me the opportunity to make my dreams come true. Without the RVC, my dream would have stayed a dream forever instead of becoming a reality.
I love the sense of the community at the RVC; there is no question that everyone looks out for everyone else regardless.
At first I found the academic side of the RVC worrying as I thought I would be snowed under with work, but that hasn’t happened! All the lecturers are available to email if you ever get confused and the sense of work and play is certainly encouraged. Instead of piling work on you, the RVC teaches you new ways to make the most out of the time you spend working so that there is always time for a chat with friends, or a movie at the cinema!
I have enjoyed many things during the course for example the practical, hands on approach to learning, we have been to London Zoo, Museums, we have extracted DNA and loads of really other interesting stuffs.
In the RVC I have enjoyed the enthusiasm and knowledge of the lecturers, whatever you’re learning about you know you always have the latest scientific discoveries being taught to you, by lecturers who have a true passion for the subject. A passion that all students inevitably begin to share.
The Camden Anatomy Museum is awesome! We have had practical lectures in there and its so amazing to see everything you’re taught in other lectures come together. Without the RVC we wouldn’t have gone to the amazing museum.
Support at the RVC is structured completely around an individual’s needs and learning styles. Support is available for everything you can think of! From revision techniques, to personal development, to time management and stress, as well as financial support. As soon as i got to the RVC there has never been a time when i have thought i have to do anything alone, because student support are there for anything and everything!
There are so many ways at the RVC to get involved with anything! Socialising is so varied that everyone is guaranteed to find something that they enjoy. I have been horse riding, shopping, partying, on a boat cruise down the River Thames, roller skating and so much more, but sometimes the only thing to do is to head to the common room to relax and play pool!
The atmosphere at the RVC is so warming and welcoming. i was worried before i came to the RVC because im on the Gateway course, but i had no need to be because everyone is so friendly. No matter who you are, what you like or what course you’re on, there is no doubt the RVC will be as welcoming to you as they are to me.
When i graduate i want to be an equine vet, because i love the way horses are so big and powerful, and yet so gentle and caring and I believe that the RVC can help me succeed to be an qualified equine vet.
