List of Courses
BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Science
The BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Sciences, first offered in September 2002 (as BSc Veterinary Sciences), is intended for those interested in Animal Science at the interface between the basic biological sciences and clinical practice. The scope of the course content, with a clear focus on the domesticated species, sets it apart from more general degree subjects like zoology or biology. Graduates from this course will be highly qualified scientists who will be well equipped for a range of careers in animal biological sciences, including biotechnology, the pharmaceutical industry, veterinary-related industries, and biomedical research.
Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed)
The degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) is a five year degree programme which leads to registration as a veterinary surgeon. Students may opt to extend their studies for a further year and take an intercalated BSc. A holder of the BVetMed degree is entitled to practise providing they are registered as a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (www.rcvs.org.uk). The BVetMed degree is recognised by the American Veterinary Medical Association as equivalent to those awarded by veterinary colleges in the USA.
Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed Graduate Accelerated)
The four-year accelerated BVetMed Programme is for students with a degree in a biological science discipline who would like to use it as the basis for a degree in veterinary medicine. The first year enables you to supplement your existing skills base, and successful completion leads to the final three years of the BVetMed clinical programme.
Combined Degree BSc(Hons)/BVetMed
A combined degree programme leading to a BSc in Bioveterinary Sciences as well as the clinical BVetMed degree. This course is designed for students who have a strong interest in scientific research.
Veterinary Gateway Programme
A one-year preparatory course at The Royal Veterinary College in London, designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills you need to join a career-building veterinary degree course. This is a widening participation programme for UK non-selective state school students whose parents have not been to university and who receive, or would be eligible for, an Education Maintenance Allowance payment.
BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing
The RVC's BSc (Honours) in Veterinary Nursing, new for 2008 entry, offers you the best of both worlds - a solid grounding in the practical essentials of Veterinary Nursing, and a stimulating exploration of its academic under-pinning leading to a BSc (Honours) degree of the University of London.
Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing
The Royal Veterinary College's three-year, full-time Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing is run in partnership with the College of Animal Welfare, the UK's leading provider of veterinary nursing education. Students will therefore enjoy the best of both worlds—a strong practical training in essential nursing skills, underpinned by the academic excellence of the RVC.
BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Pathology (Intercalated)
Students registered for the five year BVetMed degree course may opt to intercalate and gain a BSc (Honours), normally between the Second and Third Years. This can be either in the RVC or in one of the other colleges of the University. The RVC offers a BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Pathology. This provides a residential year in which dedicated instruction is provided with time enough to explore some of the most topical and active scientific issues in pathology today.
