BSc (Hons) Veterinary Pathology (Intercalated)

UCAS Code: DB16
Institution Code: RVET R84

What is the programme?

The Veterinary Pathology Programme is a one year intercalated degree option taught at our Hawkshead Campus.

Why Pathology?

Pathology, as the science of disease, is central to understanding and conduct of veterinary research and clinical medicine/surgery. However, it is of national concern that there are so few professionally trained pathologists to fulfil the ever growing demand for such expertise arising from clinical practice, academics and industry.

The added value of a focused approach to Veterinary Pathology

The intercalated degree is designed to stimulate individual curiosity at the boundaries of research in pathology. It is less structured and more student centred. While the veterinary undergraduate course provides adequate pathologic information to support subsequent clinical studies, this degree focuses and expands on the subject in a way which will support subsequent pathology oriented careers.

The BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Pathology has now been successfully running since the year 2000 and has become a flagship course. It is a hugely successful degree course and has received an unprecedented amount of funding from the Wellcome Trust. We have already seen 95 students completing, with a 100% pass rate; over 50% of these completing with a First! After Graduating from their respective Vet Degrees, the majority of our students have gone on to undertake fascinating post-graduate training that has given them enhanced career prospects.
